The work

Professor of Soil Microbiology in the Department of Plants, Soils and Climate at Utah State University and a Fellow of the Soil Science Society of America. Internationally known for methods to analyze the soil microbiome and its roles in nitrogen and carbon cycling, with a focus on ammonia-oxidizing bacteria and archaea in agricultural soils. Co-editor of the 2026 volume Measuring and Assessing the Biological Health of Soils. Trained with Mary Firestone at UC Berkeley.
