Recorded here as much for its pedigree correction as for the fruit.
‘Garretson’ and ‘Killen’ were both reported as the result of open pollination. The pomological ancestry analysis concludes they are more likely products of ‘Early Golden’ self-fertilising. That is a small change in wording and a large change in meaning: an open-pollinated seedling has an unknown father and some genetic novelty, while a self-pollination is a narrowing of an already narrow pool.
