Description
Recorded chiefly for one trait, and it is a disqualifying one in the wrong planting: ‘Weschcke’ is pollen-sterile.
A pollen-sterile cultivar can set a crop when something else supplies pollen, and it can supply none in return. Plant two of them, or plant one alongside another cultivar that turns out to shed poorly, and the block is decorative. This is the hickory version of the warning that runs through the hazelnut and pecan files: the flowering behaviour of a cultivar is not a footnote to the nut description, it is the thing that decides whether there are nuts at all.
Origin details for this selection are not recorded here; the sources consulted name the trait without settling the history.
Where to find it
No source recorded. That does not mean the cultivar is unavailable, only that this record does not yet name a nursery carrying it. Point us at one and it goes in.
