Description
The third Missouri release of 2011, and the one selected for conditions rather than for fruit.
Drought tolerance and fast rooting are both propagation-and-establishment traits, not harvest traits. For a nursery or for anyone planting at scale, ease of rooting from hardwood cuttings is a direct cost: elderberry is normally propagated that way, and a cultivar that strikes readily is cheaper to multiply than one that does not.
It is a good reminder that a cultivar’s value is not only in the fruit. Some of it is in how easily the plant becomes more plants.
