Description
The early one. ‘Précoce’ is the point: it ripens ahead of the main season, which makes it a dependable producer in cool regions where a late variety can lose its crop to frost.
Two cautions travel with it. Its pollen is only low to medium in fertility, so it is a poor choice as the sole pollinizer in a block; and its Phytophthora resistance on its own roots is poor, which is the argument for grafting it onto something like Marsol or Marigoule where ink disease is a risk.
